A regular inter-island ferry service connects the two Islands and Hertz has depots right on the main ferry wharf at both Wellington & Picton, and we want your Cook Strait crossover between the South Island and North Island to be seamless.

YOUR OPTIONS

A. Don’t bring your vehicle on the ferry.

It may be cheaper and it’s easy. Just drop off your vehicle before your ferry crossing and pick up a new one on the other side. We can assist with this if we are given specific date/times, at least 5 days before your ferry crossing. Call 0800 501 301.

B. Bring your vehicle on the ferry and bring it back to the same Island.

Ferry companies will charge you to bring a vehicle across Cook Strait. Also note a $1,000 +GST Hertz fee applies if you do not return your vehicle to the same island you picked it up from.

5 DAYS NOTICE

Book your ferry crossing early and check your rental agreement, if your cross over date has changed call us 5 days before your ferry on 0800 501 301.If we are not advised of changes, we cannot guarantee a vehicle will be available.

OPENING HOURS

The ferry terminal offices and Hertz office are not open to meet every ferry. Staff will meet the late ferry by prior arrangement only. A $50 +GST fee applies to bookings that require us to meet a ferry after 18:00. If the last ferry is running late, please phone the branch to discuss pick up arrangements.
